Author:   Update Time: 2015-06-15

Chen Wei,alumnus of GDUFS, professor with Tianjin Foreign Studies University, visited the center on the 12nd, June, 2015. He was invited to give a speech to MA and MTI students of School of Interpreting and Translation Studies at the library of Center for Translation Studies. His speech centered on how to develop translation studies under the current economic, cultural and social circumstances in China.

In his speech, Professor Chen pointed that translation studies in China has entered its golden age and that the ongoing translation studies should put more emphasis on“Chinese culture going global”. Also, he mentioned that given the current macroeconomic situation, both of the “One Belt and One Road”, and “AIIB”, were subjects worth studying.

Professor Chen also talked about the four climaxes of translation studies in China, and mentioned that we are already at the fifth climax of translation development, and encouraged MA and MTI students to actively participate in it.

He also shared his opinions on the current situation of postgraduate education of translation studies. Taking himself as an example, he pointed out that, compared with what he had learned during his postgraduate years, the present postgraduate education of translation studies values non-literary translation over literary translation, which, he thought, overlooked the importance of literary translation that reflected the complexity of translation and unveiled mechanisms behind two languages.
