D students from School of Interpreting and Translation Studies and School of Business English, was held on June 15, 2019. Zhang Xiao gave her presentation on the topic of “The Combination between Emptiness and Reality in the Chinese-English Information Transfer——Taking a Guide-Interpreting Case for Example”.
Zhang Xiao first summarized the text types and textual features involved in the case, and then made a brief review of the development of the concepts of “Emptiness and Reality” in Chinese traditional philosophy and literary theory, trying to reconsider the problem of interlingual transformation caused by the different characteristics of textual structure in C-E translation from this perspective.
Professor Zeng made his comment on the speaker’s presentation. His major points included problems with the theory that the speaker based her study on, as well as misconceptions in her study. He further put forth some suggestions for the speaker to consider in revising her study scheme.
Everyone was overwhelmed by Professor Zeng’s critical wit, orderly suggestions as well as his breadth of knowledge, which is very significant in helping improve the speaker’s further study. The Forum lasted for two hours with heated discussion and comments. All participants benefit a lot from the forum including the speaker herself.
